All Occupants Escape Injury in Near Head-on Crash

At 10:47 am on May 30th, an off duty fire Captain reported a two vehicle traffic accident on Highway 18 on the backside of Big Bear.

The orginal the location was reported as the Mitsubishi Cement Plant. Medic Engine 8 from Lucerne valley responded to the call and did not locate any accident at that location, so they continued further up Highway 18. They were finally able to locate two vehicles blocking downbound traffic at mile marker 64. The crew reported that it was a non injury accident and cancelled the ambulance.

The California Highway Patrol then arrived on scene. According to statements made at the scene a black Chevy Silverado was traveling upbound and for unknown reasons lost control, spun around and ended up downbound after colliding with the mountain. A white Toyota Tacoma was traveling downbound and clipped the Silverado.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
