  • Head on Collision on Daley Canyon
  • Prius Crashes into Power Pole
  • Toyota Found Crashed into Tree
  • No injuries Reported

Several traffic accidents were reported on the first full day of Spring. The worst of the three that were reported to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) was at 8:37 am on Thursday. Emergency crews responded to Daily Canyon between State Route 18 and State Route 189 in Blue Jay, to a report of a head-on traffic accident with possible injuries, and extrication required, blocking both lanes. A large response from CHP, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department (SBSD), and San Bernardino County Fire Department (SDCoFD) arrived on-scene to find two vehicles, both with moderate to major front-end damage. One facing up-bound, blocking the down-bound lane, and the other facing down-bound lane, blocking the up-bound lane. All occupants were out of their vehicles and appeared uninjured.

According to statements made to the CHP, Vehicle #1, a burgundy Subaru, was traveling north (down-bound) on Daily Canyon from SR-18 towards SR 189, when the driver lost control of his vehicle and slid into the opposing lane. Vehicle #2, a grey Chevy truck, was traveling south (up-bound) on Daily Canyon from the SR-189 towards SR-18 and was struck head-on by Vehicle #1.

The occupants from both vehicles refused medical treatment. SBSD closed Daily Canyon temporarily until SBCoFD cleared the scene, and CHP provided traffic control, until two tow trucks cleared the wreckage.

Just before 9:00 am, a second accident was reported on SR-189 near Balsam Lane. The driver of a blue Prius lost control of her vehicle and struck a power pole, resulting in moderate front-end damage to her car. Neither she nor her minor child was injured. The power pole only received minor damage and power was not affected by the collision. She was able to pull her car off of the roadway where she waited for CHP and a tow truck.

The third accident occurred on private property in Running Springs. A homeowner on Hilltop Blvd. reported that a vehicle had slid into a tree and was blocking her driveway. The driver was not at the scene, so it is unknown if the vehicle was occupied at the time of the collision, or if the vehicle simply slid down the steep driveway and hit the tree. CHP and a tow truck responded to clear the incident. CHP is investigating the cause of all three accidents, but snow and icy conditions are likely to be contributing factors in each of the crashes.
