TODAY’S WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST:
Good Morning.
…The NWS has issued a FLASH FLOOD WARNING, HIGH WIND WATCH, and a WINTER STORM WARNING for the local area beginning SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING!!!
…Today we will have partly to mostly cloudy skies under a quick moving transitory Ridge of High pressure. Later today we will have increasing, and gusty winds in advance of a wet pattern that will begin tomorrow. Currently hazy skies with high clouds are making for a nice Sunrise.
…Saturday. Rain will become heavy at times across the mountains as a wet Pacific system moves inland across SoCal. Rainfall amounts will run from 2.5″ up to 4.5″ will be possible especially in the upslope areas due to orographic lift. PWAT levels will max out at ~1.25″ locally. This system will have an Atmospheric River (AR) feed of moisture through Saturday night. Flooding and Debris flows across the roads, Creeks, and low lying areas may be a problem. The Snow levels will begin around the 7000′ level slowly lowering toward the end of the storm to around 6000′ by Saturday night or early Sunday morning. Big Bear, Green Valley Lake, Arrowbear, and Running Springs will likely see some snow toward the end of this system. 1-6″ in the higher elevations are possible.
…Sunday. Rain turning to snow above the 5000′ level will be the days forecast. This will be a much weaker system with showers across the area possible throughout the day. Rain/Snow totals are expected to be light. Gusty winds and low clouds and fog will all be likely through the period.
…Monday. A colder storm will bring rain and snow to the area. Snow levels are expected to be around the 4500′ level with accumulations of 1-4″ across the mountain.
Gusty winds will continue along with low clouds and Fog.
Tuesday. More rain and snow will slowly clear out by late afternoon.
…Overall, most areas will receive rain and some snow through the period. Rainfall melted snow totals are expected to run from 3-5″. Wind damage may be a factor as strong and gusty winds are expected through Sunday night. Enjoy! RC
