USFS Announces More Campgrounds Open for the Season

As the clouds clear and give way to the sun and blue skies, the summer flowers and the green trees all harmoniously announce that camping season is upon us!

United States Forest Service recently opened a number of campgrounds. This last weekend, a press release indicates that even more campgrounds are now open. In addition, some off-road vehicle trails that were previously closed have opened as well. Here’s the list of the most recently open campgrounds:

Family Camping Areas
– Heart Bar
– South Fork

Group Campgrounds
– Boulder
– Coon Creek
– Deer
– Green Spot Equestrian
– Heart Bar Equestrian
– Ironwood
– Shady Cove
– Skyline
– Tanglewood
– Wild Horse Equestrian

For more information on a specific campground, such as pricing and reservation requirements, go to https://www.recreation.gov and enter the name of the campground you are interested in.

Campers are also reminded to check with the Campground host or the local fire department for fire restrictions. Regardless of the time of year or fire conditions it is always illegal to make a fire anywhere other than in an official US Forest Service fire ring while camping in a national forest.

More openings:
– Meadows Edge Picnic Area (on Big Bear Lake)
– Forest Service Road 2N19

The United States Forest Service would like to remind all off-roaders to stay on marked vehicle trails. Fines are hefty for the commonly known practice of “trailblazing” which destroys forest resources and causes damage that is at times unrepairable.

It’s always good form to practice the principles of leave no trace. For more information on the principles of LNT, visit:
