At 10:19 am on Wednesday, a solo vehicle traffic collision with unknown injuries was reported on State Route 18 near Snow Valley. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the area and found a Chrysler PT Cruiser crashed into a snow bank approximately 2 miles west of Snow Valley, partially blocking the eastbound lane. Citizens On Patrol from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department were passing by and stopped and helped with traffic control.

The PT Cruiser was traveling westbound on SR18 from Big Bear without snow chains or cables and slid across the highway over a small snow berm and into a ditch, resulting in minor damage to the vehicle. It had been both snowing and raining off and on all morning. The highway was blocked for a few minutes in both directions as a tow vehicle pulled the stuck vehicle out of the ditch and back onto the highway. The vehicle and the two uninjured occupants were able to drive away. The cause of the accident is under investigation, but speed and slippery roads are believed to be factors.
