Flatbed Truck crashes on 330 Closing the Highway for Hours

At 4:15 pm, the California Highway Patrol received multiple reports of a commercial flatbed vehicle that has lost control, oberturned and crashed. The location given was on SR330, above the middle passing lane.

For unknown reasons, the flatbed truck lost control. When it overturned, a trailer it was in tow with, disconnected and went over the side of a cliff landing approximately 200 feet down.

Upon arrival, officers were told that the trailer had been carrying a drum of unknown materials. Additionally, the flatbed was loaded with bags of an unknown material. Hazmat teams were then dispatched to the scene. CHP did allow our news team to access the scene for a short time.  Bystanders indicated the driver did suffer some moderate injuries, and we were later advised that the driver was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.

At 4:35 pm, it was determined that entire roadway needed to be closed. CalTrans worked with CHP to enact hard closures southbound at Live Oak and Northbound in Highland. A SIG alert was issued, the highway was clear of vehicles, and the roadway stayed closed in excess of 7 hours.

The cause of the accident and the materials that were spilled are under investigation at this time. The exact nature of the occupant’s injuries are unknown at this time.
