Supervisor Rutherford Expanding Youth Council

SAN BERNARDINO—Second District Supervisor Janice Rutherford is expanding her Youth Council to
give more young people an opportunity to participate in the program.
“The Youth Council gives high school students a chance to make positive contributions to their
community while they are learning about local government and getting to know other motivated and
engaged teens,” Rutherford said. “Last year we had 25 students, and I’d like to get even more teens
involved with the program in the coming year.”
The Youth Council meets from 5 to 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month in Rancho Cucamonga.
The term is from September to May, and there may be some optional events during the summer. In
addition, during the term, the group performs community service projects on evenings and weekends
and takes part in other events, such as job shadowing and the annual Second District Christmas
reception.
Members must reside or attend a high school—including private, charter and home schools—in the
Second District, have access to email, and provide their own transportation to meetings and events.
Studetns can fill out and download the application at www.sbcounty.gov/Rutherford. The application
is located under the Open Government tab. Applications are due by Aug. 31.
