Just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday July 24th, 2018 lightning started a brush fire near the Laurel Pines Camp located at 49150 Highway 138 in Angelus Oaks.
Camp staff started evacuating children in attendance at the camp with private vehicles as emergency crews arrived on scene. Ground crews confirmed the fire at 1/4 acre with potential for 3 acres. Aircraft on order were restricted to helicopters only.
By 6:15 p.m. officials changed the evacuation order for the camp to shelter in place as conditions did not appear to be causing the fire to threaten structures.
Just after 7pm, crews indicated the fire was fully contained at 1/2 acre.
