Children’s Forest Visitor Center Now Open

Running Springs, CA  . . . The National Children’s Forest, located in Running Springs, offers free interpretive programs this summer. Join our staff and volunteers for programs ranging from guided nature walks to nature crafts. Go to mountainsfoundation.org to get dates and times.

The Children’s Forest is located at 32573 Highway 18, Running Springs, CA  92382. The Visitor Information Center is open Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30am-5pm beginning Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day and offers visitor information on local outdoor activities and forest information.

The Children’s Forest is one of six programs offered through the Southern California Mountains Foundation. A visit to the National Children’s Forest heightens awareness on how to become a more responsible caretaker of the National Forest while increasing enjoyment and knowledge of California’s most visited forestland, the San Bernardino National Forest. Educational programs are offered weekly to visitors.

Starting June 14, Children’s Forest will be hosting community trail work days. Trail work days will be on Thursdays from 9am-12pm. Come join us in helping to care for and maintain the trails we all use and love. Craft projects made from recyclable material will be every Saturday and Sunday from 11am-12pm. These fun and easy projects are designed for all age groups and are a great way for you to remember your visit to the Children’s Forest. Looking to explore the nearby trails and learn a little more about the flora and fauna? Saturdays and Sundays at 1pm, meet at the Children’s Forest visitor center for a nature walk guided by one of our interpreters. This is a great way for you to get familiar with our various trails and learn something new. Public Greenhouse Days will be on Sundays, with dates and times to be announced.

Friday and Saturday nights you can join our interpreters at the Dogwood Campground for more of our exciting programs. Fridays at 7pm you can join use for a nature walk on the Enchanted Loop. This walk lasts 45 minutes and is designed for visitors of all ages and abilities. Participants meet at the Dogwood amphitheater promptly at 7pm to depart for the nature walk. Saturdays at 7pm meet at the Dogwood amphitheater for campfire presentations. Campfire presentations will alter between educational programs and fun interactive skits to help our visitors become more familiar with the animals nearby.
