November 18, 2019At 9:30am on Monday, emergency crews responded to a report of smoke near the 23000 block of Brookside Road in the Valley of Enchantment. The reporting party was on Waters Drive near State Route 138 and could see light smoke in the area. Units from the San Bernardino County Fire Department (SBcFD), California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection (CalFire), and United States Forest Service (USFS) responded with 15 engines, two hand crews, a bulldozer, and a helicopter. Fixed wing aircraft were ordered, but were not needed. The initial size-up of the “Brookside Fire” was ½ acre of light flashy fuel on fire, with a slow rate of spread. By 10:45am, the fire had only grown slightly, and the crews were able to get a hose line around the perimeter, containing it to one acre. By 10:53am, the Incident Commander was able to start releasing resources. Several units remained on scene for the rest of the day mopping up and putting out hot spots. There were no injuries, evacuations, nor structures threatened, however, Brookside Road was closed for several hours and there was a limited power outage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
