At 6:14 a.m. we received reports of a single vehicle rollover on 18 above Upper Waterman. This was confirmed when photos were being posted on the Mountain Reporter social media pages by passing motorists.

At 6:19 a.m., a dispatch went out to San Bernardino Police about the accident. The police department spent approximately 20 minutes checking the lower portion of Highway 18. They were unable to find anything in the area that’s included in their jurisdiction.

At 6:44 a.m., San Bernardino Police found the accident scene and advised the corrected location. The call was then transferred to CHP, and the first unit arrived on scene at 7:07 a.m.

Mountain Auto Service was on an expedited dispatched one minute later. The unit at the scene requested that the truck bring absorbent to remove the oil that spilled on the roadway from the overturned vehicle.

The vehicle code, as well as the California Highway Patrol, requires that tow trucks are each equipped with two small trash cans, one with absorbent, a shovel and a broom. It is the responsibility of the tow company to pick up all the debris and oil/fluids from all accident scenes.

Due to the location and visibility to oncoming motorists, the fire department was providing traffic control on the downtown side of 18.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this time. Bystanders reported there were no injuries.
