The Climb to Conquer Cancer is an event held by the American Cancer Society to help in the fight against cancer. These events are held throughout the country, and on Saturday, September 7th, the Climb to Conquer Cancer is coming to Big Bear. Hosted by Big Bear Unite & Fight Cancer, this charitable hike will honor and support cancer survivors, in addition to aiding in cancer research.

The hike begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Big Bear Discovery Center. Hikers will be seen strolling along the paved ½-mile path or climbing up the Pacific Coast Trail for a stunning view of Big Bear Lake. A photographer will be waiting at the top of the trail to commemorate the day. After the hike, a festival will be held at the Big Bear Discovery Center Amphitheater, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Attendees will enjoy fun and games, as well as music, food, and vendors.

The Climb to Conquer Cancer is a great opportunity for community members to come together to join in the fight against cancer, as well as to show their support to cancer survivors. Local businesses and organizations show their support by donating their time and services to this great cause. The Discovery Center, Sonora Cantina, and Alaska USA Bank are some of this year’s sponsors.

The proceeds from the Climb will go to support amenities to cancer patients, like free rides to chemotherapy treatments, and the 24/7 American Cancer Society’s cancer help line. Hikers who raise $100 or more for the cause will receive a Climb to Conquer t-shirt, and participants who raise $250 or more will get the shirt, a banner flag, and lunch at the amphitheater. Prizes will also be awarded to hikers for the most money raised by an individual, most money raised by a team, and best team outfits.

Come down on Saturday to the Big Bear Discover Center, located at 40971 N. Shore Drive in Fawnskin, and enjoy a beautiful morning hike along the lakeside while fighting cancer. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. in front of the Discovery Center, and the American Cancer Society is asking for a $25 donation at registration. For more information, including how to register for the hike, please contact Liz McGiffin at liz.mcgiffin@cancer.org.
