At 7:36 p.m. on Sunday, August 4th, multiple calls went into 911 dispatchers reporting a two vehicle traffic collison on Highway 18 in Running Springs. The exact location given was just west of Running Springs school road and witnesses reported that lanes were blocked.

According to statements obtained at the scene, a tan Ford Bronco was traveling westbound on the highway, when for unknown reasons the vehicle lost control and overturned. As the vehicle was sliding down the highway on its side, it collided with a Toyota Tacoma traveling eastbound.

Medics from Stations 50 and 51 in Running Springs arrived on scene. One female was transported to Bear Valley Community Hospital with unknown injuries. The driver of the Bronco was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center with complaints of head trauma. That driver will be reportedly booked on suspicion of drunk driving.

The towing company arrived on scene to recover the Ford Bronco. When the driver attempted to upright the vehicle, it landed on top of the guardrail, causing damage to State property. The vehicle then needed to be removed from the guard rail before the vehicle could be towed and the roadway cleared.

Highway 18 was closed in both directions for approximately one hour while officials waited for the vehicle to be towed and the roadway to be cleared. The exact cause of the crash is under investigation at this time. The extent of the transported parties’ injuries are unknown at this time.
