Sheriff’s Department Releases Public Statement Regarding Crestline Homicide Investigation

From a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s press release:

DATE/TIME: July 11, 2019 9:17 p.m.

INCIDENT: Homicide Investigation

LOCATION: 24089 Lake Gregory Dr., Crestline – Goodwin’s Market parking lot

SUSPECT: Sammy Lee Davis, 29 years old, resident of Crestline

VICTIM: 27-year-old male

SUMMARY:
On Thursday, July 11, 2019 at 9:17 p.m. deputies were called to Goodwin’s Market for a call of shots fired in the parking lot. Deputies arrived and found Sammy Davis on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound and an off-duty nurse administering medical aid. Davis was transported to St. Bernadines Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 10:12 p.m.

Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives responded to conduct the investigation.

Detectives found that the victim was leaving Goodwin’s Market and was approached by three men in the parking lot. The victim recognized one of the men as an associate of the suspect that assaulted him in January 2019, which resulted in hospitalization. He felt threatened as the three subjects approached, verbally taunting him, and retrieved his firearm from a compartment in his car. One of the subjects, Sammy Davis, grabbed the victim’s shirt and punched him multiple times. The victim fired his gun, striking Davis and stopping the assault.

The investigation will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information, or anyone who witnessed the incident, is asked to contact Detective Eric Ogaz, Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail at (909)387-3589. Callers can remain anonymous and contact WeTip at 800-78CRIME or www.wetip.com.

  1. Did the victim has a permit to carry a loaded gun? Are we saying that it’s ok to shoot the friends of a guy you lost a fist fight to? And I’m confused… Did Mr. Davis loose his life because the shooter felt threatened by the friend of a guy who beat him up 6 months ago or did Mr. Davis punch the shooter for pulling a loaded gun on him for teasing him about loosing a fight with someone he knew. What was the original fight about? After doing a little research I found that the people involved in the incident from 6 months ago were into drugs. Could be that the victim failed pay his drug dealers and that’s why he was beaten up 6 months ago? So is it okay for druggies to run around with loaded guns? I am seriously finding it hard to believe that the shooter in this case was any kind of a victim and he should be locked up for killing someone.
