At 10:55 p.m. on Sunday, June 30th, a resident of Big Bear Lake called 911 to report a fire behind their residence on Cougar Road. San Bernardino County Sheriffs first arrived on scene to a house in the 42000 block of Alta Vista Drive. When deputies arrived, they reported flames and smoke showing on a back deck, and quickly utilized a nearby fire extinguisher from their patrol vehicle.
Fire personnel from Station 282 – Big Bear City arrived on scene and used thermal imaging to search for heat on the deck and surrounding areas. They put water on the deck and confined the fire to the back deck. All other units were cancelled. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time. It is unknown if the house was occupied earlier in the day. No injuries were reported. The quick action of the neighbors, deputies, and fire department prevented any further damage.
