The Mountain Reporter took a look at what has been happening at the Rim of the World High School’s construction project. We got an all access tour with administrator Stephanie Philips, who is overseeing the construction project. All of the upgrades and renovations taking place are funded by The Measure “W” Bond Money. Stephanie Phillips addressed where the Measure “W” Bond Fund is being applied and what students and facility can expect upon completion of the project.

Rim of the World High School needs more than just a face lift; some of the buildings date back to the early 1950s. The exterior of the school is getting new plaster, stucco, and paint. The windows, some of them relics from previous decades, were not weather proof. The lack of insulation from these windows brought in drafts and cold air during winter season, and hot air during the summer. With the installation of the new windows, students and staff will enjoy a more comfortable learning and working environment. In addition to these upgrades the bathrooms, doors, and hallways will be renovated as well.

This project started on April 1st due to the harsh winter season. Some of the progress was held back due to the stucco and other materials requiring a warmer temperature to adhere correctly. The gym is currently under construction, and was started towards the end of the 2018/2019 school year. As a result, students didn’t dress for gym or participate in any activities inside of the gym during construction. Initial estimates put the completion date around the end of December, but they are hoping to have the project done by the start of the 2019/2020 school year in August. The Rim of the World staff are excited to see how this all will look when the renovations are complete, and are looking forward to seeing their students in the beginning of the school year.
