San Bernardino Valley College held a special registration event for mountain residents at Rim High School on Saturday to kick-off the new partnership between SBVC and Rim. Valley College will be offering eight General Education classes at Rim staring the Fall Semester, which begins August 19th. In addition, hundreds of additional classes are available online making community college a convenient opportunity for anyone wishing to earn a degree or certificate.

More than 30 current and future SBVC students attended the Super Saturday One-Stop Registration Event. Some of the students are current RIM seniors, while others have been contemplating going to college for some time. Faculty members from both Rim and Valley were on-hand to help these students navigate the application process, assisted with the financial aid options, provided Assessments, and offered on-site Counseling and Registration.

Brandi Crane, who is currently a student at Valley College, was able to see a Counselor for the first time. “I have been trying to see a Counselor for months, but with work, school and family, it’s hard to get down to the campus to meet with them there.” Brandi is taking pre-requisites needed to apply for Nursing School. Her boyfriend, Adrian Perez, took advantage of the event and applied for college courses as well.

Jessi Dressler, a working mother with two toddlers, decided to go back to school in her mid-20’s. “When I found out that Rim was holding Valley College classes I was excited because I didn’t have to travel down the hill for some of the courses.” Jessi is going back to school to become an Ultrasound Technician.

Depending on the success of the first semester, an expanded curriculum could be offered in the future. It might not be too late to register for the Fall Semester at Rim.
