TODAY’S WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST:

Good Morning.
..Today we can expect rain showers across the area. The first wave of this system will be warm with the freezing level currently running at~ 7500′. GVL is as of 8am, at 34* at 7000′. Light rain showers will continue throughout the day today below 6500′ where it is currently clear above that elevation. Gusty winds will be with us today along with a Winter Storm Watch above the 5500′ level by Monday morning.
..Phase two of this system will arrive later this afternoon. This second part will be where the cold air is and snow levels will lower to ~6500-7000′ by 5pm then to ~5000-5500′ by 5am Monday morning as the end of this storm passes through. Rainfall amounts will vary significantly across the area. Along the Rim from 1.00-2.00″ will be likely due to Orographic lift, where away from the Rim .25-.75″ will be more likely. Such as the North side of Arrowhead. Snowfall amounts will also vary as Running Springs can expect from 0-2″ of snow and Big Bear about the same. GVL is a little higher and will see snow showers begin sooner and may receive up to 2-3″ by tomorrow morning.
..After this system passes through Monday, a pattern change will begin to develop. The Long Wave Trough that has sat over the Western Region producing waves of showers over the West, will begin to slowly move East. This will allow a weak but slowly strengthening Ridge of High pressure to move in from the West in the coming days. Clear skies and warming temperatures will return us to a more normal weather pattern for this time of year. RC*
..On the main page of the website, www.lakegregoryweather.com I have added two live webcam views, one of Lake Gregory pointing North, and the other facing Southeast toward Waterman canyon. These are very helpful for the drive up and down the hill. If the camera view is gray, that means it’s foggy.
..That’s it for today. Thank you for joining me @ lakegregoryweather.com
..Be sure to check out the other pages on the website for live webcams from around the area, live Radar, Satellite loops, Traffic conditions, along with live Weather conditions, and a live view of Lake Gregory from my weather station at the South side of the lake. Have a good Day! *RC
