Weekly Fishing Report – 5/24/19

This week’s fishing report is sponsored by Goodwin’s Market and Mountain Top Producers Realty

The Mountain Reporter fishing report covers Big Bear Lake, Green Valley Lake, Arrowbear Lake, Lake Silverwood and Lake Gregory with a weekly report covering baits, fishing spots and other tips you will need to know to give you the best advantage for your fishing trip.

Local Lake Reports

Big Bear Lake:

Trout bite has slowed down due to recent weather. A few have been caught on the North Shore by Dam. With the recent rains, inflated night crawlers on a Carolina rig with a long leader would be the rig of choice. Another good method is the slip bobber, allowing you to adjust the depth of your bait until you find where they are holding. The best time to fish is early morning and early evening.

Green Valley Lake:

Green Valley Lake just got a fresh stock of 1200 lbs of rainbow trout from Jess Ranch Hatchery for this weekend’s Memorial Day Opener. Plus, expect that a trout plant from CDFW will be added as well. Trout have been reported to be in the 2 lb to 3 lb range and are already biting. Jigs seems to be the ticket. For “bait ‘n wait,” good old fashioned inflated nightcrawlers or salmon, peach or garlic power bait will get the job done. Any of the points or by dam should be productive. Early morning or early evening is your best bet.

Arrowbear Lake:

Arrowbear Lake also is expected to receive another CDFW trout plant by this weekend. Trout fishing should be good. Also:

Lake Gregory:

Lake Gregory is full of fish!

Following last weekends trout derby, a private stock from Jess Ranch and this week’s stock from CDFW, anglers should have no problem catching fish. Mini jigs, gold spoons and spinners are the ticket with some being caught on power bait as well. Baseball field cove, Trout Cove and south shore have been producing. Early morning and early evening is when the bite is hot.

Silverwood Lake:

The trout bite has slowed down lately. But the crappie and blue gill are still on the chew. Drop shot worms or minnows seems to be working well. The Marina docks have been the hot spot. Early morning is your best bet.

Kids Corner Fishing Joke of the Week

Question: What do you call a fish that won’t shut up?

(Answer below)

Weekly Rig:

The Mini Tube Jig is a tube jig that you insert a weighted jig head inside of, preferably a 1/32oz or 1/16oz jig head that’s tied directly to your main line. Cast out and with a slow retrieve and gently bounce your rod tip to give the mini jig action.

Good luck this week folks, see you again next week!
