Video Report: One Transported to the Hospital After Accident Near Heaps Peak

At 3:45 p.m. on Friday, 911 dispatchers began receiving reports of a two vehicle accident on Highway 18 near Heaps Peak, west of Running Springs. Emergency crews arrived on scene to find a white Lexus RX300 SUV and a blue Chevy Equinox, both with front end damage. Initial reports indicated that one person was trapped in the vehicle and would need a technical extrication.

According to CHP logs, a victim was reported as unconscious but emergency crews were able to treat that person with no extrication needed. The California Highway Patrol was on scene directing traffic, which was affected for approximately 45 minutes. Medic Ambulance 50 from Running Springs Fire Department transported the one accident victim to the hospital. The exact nature and extent of the injuries suffered by this person are unknown at this time.

Mountain Auto Service was dispatched to remove both vehicles. The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the cause of this accident.
