Tuesday evening, April 16th at approximately 6:16 pm, a solo vehicle traffic accident was reported on Highway 18 near mile marker 15 on the upbound side of the roadway.

The accident involved a Red Cadillac XLR that may have been travelling at a high rate of speed. For unknown reasons, the vehicle lost control causing it to overturn. It then landed on it’s tires and came to rest in a small turnout near a blind curve. During the impact, the driver’s side rear rim shattered and separated from the vehicle.

Road conditions may have been damp at the time and fog was reported in the area. Traffic was not affected due to the vehicle landing of the roadway. Don’s garage was dispatched from Running Springs to recover the vehicle. Both the tow truck and the responding CHP unit were on extended ETAs as there was high call volume at the time and both were responding from across the mountain.

No injuries were reported although the vehicle did sustain heavy damage. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Running Springs CHP office.
