Ground and Air Teams Rescue Stranded Mountain Biker in Big Bear

At 12:33 PM on April 9th, 2019 a call went into 911 dispatch reporting a female fall victim near 3n16 and 3n79 in Holcomb Valley, North of Big Bear. The dirt bike [sic] (bicycle) rider and her male companion were riding the trail when they stopped and hiked down a trail when the female lost her footing and fell 200 yards into a ravine.

The male companion hiked back up the trail to get cell service to call for help. Brush Control 96 from the San Bernardino County Fire Station in Fawnskin and Medic Engine 282 as well as Brush Control 282 from Big Bear City arrived on scene and attempted to make access to the patient. Helicopter 285 was in the area but was unable to fly and hoist the patient due to high winds.

Medics hiked in and treated the patient on scene and got her into a waiting ambulance. As they descended down the trail the female patient could not handle the ride due to severe pain. They requested another helicopter, H325. Battalion Chief Tracy from San Bernardino County Fire handled the incident dubbed as the Trail Incident.

H325 was able to land in a nearby open field to assist with the patient .The patient was flown to a nearby hospital for a possible broken arm. The hard work and corroboration of Big Bear Fire Authority and San Bernardino County medics safely got the patient to a local hospital. The exact cause of the fall and her condition is unknown at this time.
