3rd Annual Bike Rodeo, a Hit with the Town Youth!

On Saturday, 5/12/18, the North Beach parking lot at Lake Gregory was full of mountain boys and girls of all ages. Hosted by the Twin Peaks Sheriff and the California Highway Patrol, the 3rd Annual Bicycle Rodeo amwas a resounding hit.

Amongst booths staffed with representatives from the Twin Peaks Sheriff Department, Twin Peaks Sheriff Explorers, the California Highway Patrol, Wake and Wheel, food vendors and others were kids riding and gliding their way around the parking lot.

The event offered free food, bike raffles, an obstacle course for kids to practice traffic rules, and toy giveaways. Meet and greet with local law enforcement was one of the kid’s favorite things about the event. Rim Parks and Rec passed out free bike helmets and Wake & Wheel did safety inspections, minor repairs and bike sizing adjustments free of charge.

The first two years, this event was held at the San Moritz Lodge. This year, the North Beach parking lot offered visibility to everybody driving through Crestline.

“It’s really a nice way for the kids to meet the officers, it’s a really fun outreach event”, stated Patty, a Crestline resident.

Hot dogs, chips and water were passed out and the kids were able to play follow the leader with a bicycle patrol deputy through the obstacle course.

This event was one of the many ways that law enforcement is keeping it “wheel” with the community youth.
